The part is then machined from certified modern stock, often better than the original material, and verified against the new drawing with a first article inspection.

Often, and deliberately: a modern stainless grade where the original corroded, a tougher alloy where it wore, a relieved radius where it cracked. Materials have moved a long way since many of these parts were designed. Changes are made consciously and recorded on the new drawing, so the improved part is a documented specification, not a one-off accident.
