Free Steel Quota Tracker · Last updated 11 July 2026
The service
The Free Steel Quota Tracker is a free information tool operated by TrueNorth Engineering Ltd, Manchester, United Kingdom. It republishes live UK steel import quota balances from HMRC's UK Trade Tariff API and, optionally, sends email alerts about quota levels to subscribers. Using the tracker means you accept these terms.
Information, not advice
Nothing on the tracker or in our alerts is customs, legal, tax, financial or investment advice. Whether a specific consignment falls inside a quota depends on its exact commodity code, origin and the position at HMRC when it clears customs. Always confirm quota status and classification with HMRC or your customs agent before committing to shipments or purchases.
Data accuracy
- Balances are fetched live from the official UK Trade Tariff API each time the page loads. HMRC typically publishes updated allocations daily; positions can change at HMRC between publications.
- Grade-to-category mappings and depletion projections are our own editorial guidance, provided in good faith and without warranty.
- We do not warrant that the data is accurate, complete or current, and we may change or withdraw any part of the service at any time.
Quota status and prices
Quota exhaustion does not automatically change steel prices. The out-of-quota tariff affects only imports above quota from covered origins; domestic production, in-quota imports and existing stock are not directly affected. Treat quota status as a supply-risk signal, not a price forecast, and make commercial decisions on your own judgement.
Alerts
Alert emails are sent on a reasonable-efforts basis; we do not guarantee delivery, timing or that an alert will precede quota exhaustion. Alerts require your consent and include occasional updates about TrueNorth Engineering services; unsubscribing at any time ends the whole stream. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.
Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud). Subject to that, the tracker is provided free of charge and "as is": to the fullest extent permitted by law we accept no liability for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, the tracker or its alerts — including loss of profit, business, contracts or savings, or any indirect or consequential loss.
